Alvin Toffler writes that “the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” This quote was intended to relate to digital transformation in business. I consider it a compelling model for personal growth. A mind and heart that are open require that we are lifelong learners. We also need to consider shedding biases, preconceptions, and things that we “know” or thought to be true.

On my own personal journey, I have tried to apply this to every aspect of my life and work. I’d like to think that this keeps a person young. It forces us to remain open to new ideas. We become capable of seeing things for the first time with new, grace-filled and compassionate eyes. There is no limit to what we can learn, unlearn, and relearn as long as we’re alive.
